Weather Center
The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is housed in the former U.S. Post Office building in downtown Punxsutawney. The beautiful 1914 structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After acquiring the building, the Punxsutawney Weather Center, Inc. set out to develop its plan for an interactive education center devoted to weather science and weather folklore. When fully operational, the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center will be a year round destination for school groups and tourists. The first phase of exhibits will open on February 1, 2007.
The Mission of the Punxsutawney Weather Center, Inc. is
To present the science of weather prediction in a pleasant, enjoyable and easy to understand manner.
To educate a variety of groups, individuals, ages, and cognitive levels about the weather using folklore, history, science and technology.
To enhance Punxsutawney's (the home of Groundhog Day) claim as the Weather Capital of the World by opening a unique, inexpensive and informative center for weather education and weather technology.
